Women's Health & Wellness: How CBD Can Help
Soothe PMS Symptoms and Period Pain
CBD is a cannabinoid that has been lauded in the wellness community as a supplement for women and our unique health concerns. Recent research shows that CBD oil can be effective at addressing icky symptoms that we often associate with PMS or “that time of the month” when a period is happening. CBD can help reduce feelings of anxiety, improve a bad mood, and even combat physical pain like menstrual cramps. The research showing that CBD can help with physical pain has led some entrepreneurs to use CBD as an ingredient in topical skin care products. Try applying a CBD balm or lotion directly on your skin where you feel cramping, bloating, and period pain. It might work for you during that “time of the month.”
Help Relieve Menopause Symptoms
As a woman, getting older can come with a host of uncomfortable symptoms that men will never understand. Some days, the hot flashes of menopause can be too much to bear, not to mention the need to reduce stress and relax during menopause while also trying to resume life’s regular responsibilities. Luckily, CBD can help with those mood changes. One famous study in mice from 2010 concluded that antidepressant medication and CBD operate similarly in the brain, meaning that CBD could be effective for reducing the symptoms of depression. If menopause has your mood swinging all over the place, try some CBD oil. Another concern for women during menopause is preventing osteoporosis. As a preventative supplement, try CBD products since we see many recent studies connecting CBD to anti-inflammatory and anti-bone-loss effects.
Combat Symptoms of Anxiety
Many experts argue that CBD is one of the most effective anti-anxiety supplements currently available. Do a quick search online, and you’ll find many women speaking out about their personal experiences using CBD to help reduce anxiety. In one double-blind study reported by SAGE Publishing in 2019, a group of researchers tested CBD’s effectiveness at treating social anxiety disorder by using functional neuroimaging. Their test showed that CBD significantly reduced anxiety by interacting with the limbic and paralimbic brain areas. The researchers wrote, “Relative to placebo, CBD was associated with significantly decreased subjective anxiety (p < 0.001), reduced ECD uptake in the left parahippocampal gyrus, hippocampus, and inferior temporal gyrus (p < 0.001, uncorrected), and increased ECD uptake in the right posterior cingulate gyrus (p < 0.001, uncorrected). These results suggest that CBD reduces anxiety in SAD and that this is related to its effects on activity in limbic and paralimbic brain areas.”
